Paying in person
Those who wish to pay their taxes or utilities in person may come to the Brazeau County Administration Office between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) and pay with cash, cheque, debit or credit card (in accordance with Credit Card Payment Acceptance Policy FIN-17).
If you are paying in person, it is helpful for staff if you bring your tax notice or utility bill with you. This makes it faster to process your payment. If you are unable to bring your tax notice or utility bill with you, staff is also able to look up your information for you.
Paying by mail (cheque)
If you plan to submit payment by mail, please include the bottom portion of your tax notice or utility bill in the envelope with your cheque.
If you wish to write one cheque for multiple tax rolls, please include all the relevant tax notices so staff know which tax rolls to apply payment to.
It is also helpful if property owners include the roll number(s) or utility account number on the memo line of the cheque.
Paying via online banking
If paying through online banking is more convenient for you, there are a few things to be aware of to make sure the payment is made correctly.
If you wish to pay both your utilities and property taxes using online banking please note that you will need to set up two payees.
When paying your property taxes through online banking use your roll number for the account number. If you wish to pay on multiple roll numbers, each one must be a separate transaction. When making payment customers will be asked to enter an account number. At that point enter your roll number and the amount you wish to pay for that roll only. Once that payment has been submitted, you may follow the same procedure for each separate roll number.
When paying utility bills with online banking users must use the full 8 digits of the utilities account number (without the decimal) as the account number.
Paying by phone
Brazeau County also accepts credit card payments over the phone for those customers interested in that option.
Customers who wish to use this option are asked to call 780-542-7777 and be sure they have their roll number(s) or utility account number ready to give to staff. Customers will also be required to provide the billing address for the credit card, CVC (security number), and expiration date.
Property owners will find their roll number located in the top right hand corner of their tax notice, as well as in the lower right hand portion. Utility account numbers are located in the top lefthand corner of the monthly bill.
Automatic payment plans
Brazeau County offers automatic monthly payment options for both property taxes and utility bills.
The Tax Instalment Payment Plan (TIPP) allows property owners to pay annual taxes in monthly instalments, instead of a lump sum payment each year. The only requirement to sign up for the TIPP program is that you have chequing or saving privileges at a financial institution (bank, trust company, treasury branch, or credit union), and that you do not pay your taxes through a mortgage company.
The program takes the estimated or actual taxes owing in the taxation year and distributes them equally over the monthly payments for the number of months remaining in the year (based on application date).
Applications for the program can be found here or picked up in person at the Brazeau County Office.
For utility account holders with Brazeau County we offer a pre-authorized debit (PAD) program.
This program allows you to set up automatic withdrawals from a preferred account. All that is required is that you have chequing or saving privileges at a financial institution. Payment for your utility account is withdrawn each month on the utility due date.
Application forms are available at the Brazeau County office, or you can download the form below.
If you have any questions regarding the above programs please contact Tax and Assessment Coordinator Jennaka Hartman or call 780-542-7777.
Pre-Authorized Debit Plan (PAD) for Utilities
Residents in the hamlets within Brazeau County (Rocky Rapids, Cynthia, Lodgepole, Violet Grove or Buck Creek) receive monthly utility bills. If you are moving in or out of a property in these areas Brazeau County must be contacted to set up or discontinue billing.
Those calling will be required to provide the following information:
- Owner or tenant’s name
- Current mailing or forwarding address
- Possession or move in date
This information will allow the County to set up an account for a new owner/tenant and prepare final billing for the previous owner/tenant.
Customers who sign up for the Pre-Authorized Debit Plan have their monthly utility payment automatically withdrawn from their bank account on the due date.
All you need to sign up for PAD is chequing or savings privileges at a financial institution (bank, trust company, treasure branch or credit union).
It takes approximately two weeks to process an application, so be sure to submit the application by the 15th of the month you would like the automatic withdrawals to start. You can pick up an application form at the Brazeau County Office, or download it here.
If you have any questions about the Pre-authorized Debit Plan, please contact our office at 780-542-7777.
